About
Macy Armstrong is a Canadian screenwriter with a penchant for (writing about) violent women... although she herself can't handle the sight of blood.
She graduated from the Etobicoke School of the Arts' competitive film program in 2016 before enrolling at the University of Toronto in a Cinema Studies degree. Her early student short films premiered at several festivals globally, including the Victoria Film Festival (CAN) and Blackbird Film Festival (USA).
She currently has her first feature script completed - The Higher the Hair, a French-Revolution-meets-influencer-culture comedy-horror (shortlist, 2022 TIFF Micki Moore Residency). As well, she is working on the feature script, The Bump, a new-age thriller, co-written by Mandeq Hassan; it's a 2021 Netflix-BANFF Diversity of Voices Initiative selection and is generously supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
Additionally, Macy is a TIFF Next Wave member alum and, from 2017-2022, was a prominent publicist at GAT PR, working with talent such as Gaspar Noe, Werner Herzog, and Gordon Lightfoot.
